This summer I am up to my elbows in school supplies, playground equipment, books, and more. It's time to do inventory, to assess the quality and quantity of the items we currently have and order replacements when necessary (and, if the budget allows).
Summer is also a time for planning for next year. One of the things we are doing this summer which is a little different than our usual program is the way we distribute school supplies before students go back in August. Normally we notify the families we have worked with closely in the past year and give them supplies. Once in a while they will bring a friend or relative for supplies as well.
This year however, we are opening up our giveaway to the neighborhood. After two years of limited programming due to the pandemic, we do not have as many relationships with families in the neighborhood. We want to change that. So, on August 20th, we are throwing a block party with face painting, music, games, food, and of course, school supplies. Of course, that means we need more supplies than usual. That's where our friends and supporters come in.
