OPEN ARMS COMMUNITY AT A GLANCE
Serving our neighbors together
Open Arms Community seeks to mitigate the effects of poverty, low educational achievement, addiction, and socio-economic and racial prejudice by offering programs specifically designed to address these issues. Since 2000, we have been doing this with the help of volunteer staff, most of whom are Christian servants seeking to live out their faith and offer hope, peace, joy and love to their neighbors.
Helping children achieve
At Open Arms Community, we have dedicated volunteers with knowledge and experience in the field of education. These volunteers stay with the same children throughout their time with us at Open Arms. Each child is given individualized attention and encouraged to build the skills they need to succeed in school and in life.
*During the pandemic, our tutoring program was modified. We became a Remote Learning Center in cooperation with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and Forsyth Promise. However, we will return to Tuesday evening tutoring for the 2021-2022 school year.
HISPANIC BIBLE STUDY
estudiar la palabra de Dios
Through a partnership with a local Hispanic United Methodist congregation, this study is offered to adults while child care is offered to children. Everyone is invited to dinner together beforehand.
*Due to Covid-19 this is currently being offered on Facebook through Marvin United Methodist Church's Facebook page.
FOOD AND PAPER PRODUCT DONATIONS
Blessed to be a blessing
With the help of our ministry partners, we are able to provide food and other necessities to families and neighbors in times of need. One way we do this is through a Blessing Box located outside our center. Anyone can drop off or pick up food from the box at any time, no questions asked.
We also have a pantry (inside) which we stock with food used for providing meals to the families who participate in our programs each week.
There is also a Free Little Library located outside for neighbors to drop off or pick up books to read.
